The City Council has implemented a program to assist low income and elderly citizens in reducing their garbage billing. Garbage exemption forms must be filled out yearly and be on file prior to billing to receive the deduction. To qualify for a garbage exemption you must be either over 65 years of age and living alone, are low income, or contract with a private hauler. Please use the tables below to find out if you qualify for a garbage exemption. Citizens who qualify for this program are encouraged to fill out an garbage exemption application and return it to the City Clerk’s Office. All Waterloo citizens are eligible to receive five waste collection tags.

Private Haulers
Citizens who contract with a private hauler for garbage collection need to yearly fill out a garbage exemption form and forward it to their private hauler for signature. The private hauler then forwards the application to the City Clerk’s Office.

Waste Collection Tags
Waterloo citizens are eligible to receive five yard waste collection tags per household each calendar year. These tags can be used for extra garbage accumulated during the week. Waste collection tags should be placed on the garbage sack and turned so the tag is facing the street then placed on the lid of the garbage can. Waste collection tags are available at the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, 715 Mulberry Street. Additional tags are available at a cost of $1.00 each.
